What is faith and why do I need to have it placed in Jesus Christ?

Hebrews 11:1 says this: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Faith means to trust (to believe that is) in someone or something.

You need to have faith in Jesus because he is your Savior and he is the only one who can save you (Acts 4:12) (John 3:16-18) (John 4:42) (John 5:24) (John 8:24) (John 10:9) (John 11:25) (John 14:6) (1 John 4:14) (1 John 5:11-13). God the Father declares time and time again (in the Holy Bible) that without faith in Christ Jesus his Son you will not be saved by him. Jesus declared and warned that those who dare reject him as the Son of God have also rejected the Father who sent him! Those who do not believe that Jesus is the Christ (who is God's only begotten Son) will perish for their unbelief (John 8:24)! The Holy Bible says this "but without faith it is impossible to please God." (Hebrews 11:6) What God the Father is revealing, what God the Father is saying to mankind is this "Without faith in Jesus Christ his Son it is impossible to please him, and it is impossible to be saved by him." This is because He (Jesus) is the only way to him, He Jesus is the only way to God the Father (John 14:6) (1 Timothy 2:4-6).

Romans 1:17 (KJV)

17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. ."

John 3:16-18

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him (Jesus) is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

Romans 1:16-17 (NLT)

16For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes--Jews first and also Gentiles. 17This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, "It is through faith that a righteous person has life."

Romans 10:9-13

For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. As the Scriptures tell us, "Anyone who believes in him will not be disappointed. Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They all have the same Lord, who generously gives his riches to all who ask for them. 13For "Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
